The Blog Woes; Down completely now?

Lurker re-emerging from the weeds briefly.

Fb announced that :cherryh: had sorted the blog and all was fine, but I now can't even see cherryh.com let alone the blog. Even closed circle seems to be down.

I assume it's not just me?

Same with me... The server must be down. I commented on CJs FB page that I couldn't see it and asked if the server is down. If no comment back on FB and no joy with the server I'll message CJs phone and see if I can reach her that way (but at a human hour)

I've emailed Herself and heard it was precisely that, a server outage affecting not just her but other people using that host (Closed Circle, etc.) Lynn Abbey is "ready to go on the warpath".

I'm not at all sure that it was the template that caused the issue. Jane is still using that particular theme, and I believe on the same server as WWAS. I haven't seen any issues with Jane's website.

The theme is about 9 years old, and I don't know if CJ is using any plugins that would help prevent spam, or having the account hijacked.

The website I'm maintaining for my kendo club uses the same theme, but I'm on a different server than CJC. In fact, I don't believe my server is even in the U.S.

I've emailed the three authors via closed-circle.net and CJC's own email.

I can login fine, but the comment links are inactive, unclickable, so I cannot yet comment again.

SmartCat, your login would not have been the issue with the server. More likely, it was a hardware failure, electrical or component, and took out a drive on the server, or that whole server. A server is essentially a computer, drives, and network communications (router and software) set up to serve, send and receive files and messages and process scripted programs from a website or other networked communications node.

The new blog looks quite snazzy, though. My one critique might be a shorter banner image, but as wide as needed. It looks clean and sparing and still aesthetic.

This isn't the final rendering of the website. It's still in the "tweaking" phase. She wanted a theme that would actually work. For whatever reason, the theme she had didn't work, although Jane's site has the same theme and no trouble. I'm using that same theme for my website, too, and I haven't had any difficulty.

Aha! Problem solved. I can now comment again. -- It was a problem of not engaging my brain. I somehow had not clicked on the blog post (topic thread) titles, and had not been able to click on the ## Comments because those are no longer a link, the titles are. So...I feel like an idiot, but finally worked it out, thanks to a nudge on something else from CJC. Also, I'm having more trouble than I'd thought distinguishing dark blue and black. Just my eyes playing tricks, plus not trying enough other spots that might be potentially clickable. So, the problem's solved for me.

Huh, odd, the new Comment box ~keeps~ the word, "Comment" in the box, even after one clicks on it to begin replying. Tat should be a label that's wiped when one begins typing a comment. No biggie, though, just an annoyance.

My brain's fried. Between moving and sins and working like mad n fonts...nah, my brain is just out to lunch. Hadn't I clicked on a title before? Wow. -- Just glad I can comment again.

She's aware of that, and is working on it....

Working with a new theme requires a bit of a learning curve. "Divi" is supposedly WordPress's most versatile and powerful theme, and there's a lot to transfer over. Some of the things in Atahualpa (the old theme) don't transfer over to "Divi" looking or acting quite the same.

I'm sure she'll get it where she's happy with it......I do backspace out the word "Comment", though.....a minor annoyance, but not insurmountable.
