As I recall, atevi marriages are often arranged with pre-determined time spans, and so children from a family may share one parent but not the other. For the purposes of associations and loyalties, it may be linquistically significant to include that information when talking about a relative. It would hint that his mother and uncle are not necessarily allied in all interests, for example. |
