What ribbons do Bren's aishid wear? Do they wear black ribbons, because they are Guild members? White ribbons because they're Bren's house guard? No ribbons at all (for whatever felicitous third reason there might be...)?

Bren mentions his own ribbons all the time, but it's never been said, I don't think, what ribbons his aishid wear.

Since their initial alliance is via the Guild, would they wear any at all?

In my opinion, if they did wear ribbons, they would be black since white would be too noticable at night.

I'd say black. But one should ask CJ to learn the truth!

I ~think~ that in Foreigner 1, it states that Banichi and Jago wear ribbons also, as Guild members, and I ~think~ it mentions ribbon colors for the Guild also when it goes over ribbons initially for Bren and Tabini-aiji and atevi / Ragi culture generally, somewhere early on in the book. I ~think~ it's an all-black ribbon for the Guild. That's how I picture them, mentally, a long queue with ribbon interwoven or wound around the braid. (I ~think~ it's interwoven besides knots at the nape and tail of the queue.)

But yes, check the text or ask Herself, as my memory is not always so correct.

The ribbon may change for the occasion. Black for everyday or combat situations, the lord's colors for more formal occasions. It does seem a little weird for Assassins Guild members to wear neutral white, though. Bren's aishid could wear Bren's Lord of the Heavens color: black with silver stars.

I don't think they wear ribbons at all, even of the lords they are guarding. Wearing colors indicates association, indicates partisanship, something the Guild (in public anyway) avoids as anathema to its charter of neutrality. If they absolutely had to dress up for a formal setting, white would actually make a certain amount of sense. Or, they may simply adopt the black & red of the Ragi. Again, assuming any ribbons whatsoever. As repeatedly demonstrated, the Guild has to use electronic IFF (Identification Friend/Foe) to figure out who's who in a gunfight, when the Guildmembers aren't physically standing next to a lord. The Guild is a very small community; most people know who's who, and the more senior you are, the more people you know or know about. Or you know who's on your side, and anybody who isn't is fair game. This kind of knowledge was the main advantage of Sidi-ma's and Bren's aishid; aside from the Missing and "Dead", they were the most senior non-Shadow Guildmembers on the planet!
