Attention, ALL Meetpoint Travelers:

New Arrivals at Meetpoint Station.

Newly available for Kindle and other ebooks, from the publishers of CJC's books, MOST of the FLEET's in!
√ = The ebook is IN;
o = The ebook is still NOT IN;

√ The Pride of Chanur
√ Chanur's Venture
√ The Kif Strike Back
o Chanur's Homecoming
√ Chanur's Legacy

o The Chanur Saga (trilogy of the first 3 books)
o Chanur's Endgame (duology of the last 2 books)

Here's hoping the remaining book and the two collections are available in ebook format soon. (Note, they are all available in audiobook format from Audible.com .)

...If only there were more...

Also, a New Arrival now available in Alliance-Union Space:

√ Downbelow Station

And in the Foreigner Universe:

√ Foreigner 04 = 2.1: Precursor
√ Foreigner 05 = 2.2: Defender
√ Foreigner 06 = 2.3: Explorer

Also, in pbook format (you know, actual printed books) in Paperback:

√ Foreigner 15 = 5.3: Peacemaker

Therefore, all 15 volumes of the Foreigner series are available in Ebook and Paperback in the US market.

This is wonderful news. -- I'll have my web page updated soon, showing what Foreigner books are available. I'll also get my page showing which Chanur books are available updated soon.

Thanks Ben, That tracks what I know, but it's good to have backup. I still wish we could get the Finisterre Books (Rider at the Gate, and Cloud's Rider)

Does anyone know if there's been any progress in getting UK authorised ebooks? Last time I checked we had the same 7 that have been available for years with no foreigner ones at all.

- Bit off that Homecoming is missing from the Chanur series! I hate it when publishers do daft things like that and only make part of a series available.

Happy New Year!

'Lo, 'Fox-ji, Ready-ji, and others!

I don't understand why they don't have Chanur's Homecoming available in ebook format yet either, since they did the others, but it didn't show up beyond paperback and hardbound formats. Sigh. (And the Chanur series is probably my most favorite, so...sigh.) The two collections are essentially sandwiching the single volumes together with a bit of front and back matter, which ought to be simple to put into ebook format. But it may well be one or two people at the publisher's doing a backlog of current and backlist work, so...there may be things we readers don't know of.

I haven't tried to find UK, Continental European, or other information, since I'm in the US.

However, since people have asked before, I'd very much like to find what's available where, and make that available in the table as well.

Ideally, if I got very ambitious (perhaps insanely so, lol) I'd try to do so for her full works.

Every so often, I look again to see if there might be other volumes available in ebook form. Several of her older books or novellas have been bundled in a few volumes, which makes them available in paperback here, but still not in ebook format. So it's of much interest to all fans, US or elsewhere.

I'd posted the above at her blog as well, so it might generate something from her side. Unfortunately, and infelicitously, the publishers seem to run by their own odd lights as to what they reprint or when (if at all) they put backlist books into ebook formats.

ReadingFox, I'll also email CJC and ask about UK and European availability. Maybe Herself can get something arranged on this through her agent or contacts. It must frustrate her as well. There are plenty of fans, English-speaking and in other markets friendly to science fiction and with large audiences, who would eagerly buy the ebooks, if only they were available. I understand that there are very tricky, spaghetti-like rights issues per country, but I wonder if that might somehow be simplified, given the EU and other trade options.

Several other fans, here at Shejidan and on her blog, have voiced their longing for the ebooks before, which you all probably know all too well. I'll ask and see what might come from it. I'd be hugely frustrated also, if I were in any other country.

I don't see, these days, why they can't all agree that everyone can make deals to publish without "region-codes" and other such regional boundaries. There's no real reason why a digital file can't be sold planet-wide. (I do understand publishers of any media want to limit their competitors in their own countries, but these days, the market is really the planet, not the local nation.)

Might as well wish for US and UK spelling to standardize into something new and undivided, while we're wishing for sensible things, right? Heh.

Silly, isn't it?

Best Wishes over there!

I've posted a reply in the thread at CJC's blog, but it's awaiting approval (or it was eaten by the filter). If the latter, I have it saved to resubmit later. For completeness, I'll also post a copy here.

I see she's having computer problems and a WordPress problem, so things should straighten out soon.

It occurs to me a Poll here at Shejidan, to show reader/fan response wishing for international ebook availability, showing an idea of market, paying customers, would be of help in persuading the reluctant publishers. So I'll have that posted as soon as I get it written out.

CJ? -- A request, please.

(I agree, Aja Jin. I don't know why it still isn't showing as available, when the later volume is. Oddness from the publisher. Perhaps it's in the pipeline and coming out soon?)

Over on Shejidan, as here on your blog, whenever the subject of ebook availability comes up, UK and Continental European and Australian and New Zealander residents always chime in to say that there are very few ebook titles available in their countries at all, despite that the paperback and hardbound formats are available, often out-of-print. (Could we say "pbook" for printed book?)

I know how frustrated I'd be if I saw that US and Canadian fans can get ebooks in their countries, but international fans cannot. Many of them are English-speaking fans, as you know, and many more speak major world languages with large book-buying, tech-savvy, science fiction loving audiences, as you also know.

Heck, when I last looked for a backlist, out-of-print title for two of your books, one was unavailable after some weeks, while the other was (and was embarrassingly cheap as a used book, in good condition).

I am sure the situation frustrates you, since it would mean needed ~profit~ for yourself -- and for the publishers involved. Ahem.

Is there perhaps some way, through your agent or other publishing contacts, or with the fast-changing digital international market, that ebooks for the UK, EU, AU (OZ!), and NZ markets could be included, served, at least with English-language ebooks? -- I know fans often ask here at your blog and at the Shejidan forum. Entire continents could be sold to! :D ...If only it could be easy to go region-free, to sell to the entire planet. We fans do understand publishers want to protect their rights from competition in their own local nations, but, really, there's no real reason not to sell region-free, planet-wide anymore.

Every so often, I look again on Amazon to see if there are further titles newly available as ebooks. I was thrilled to see nearly all of the Chanur series and Downbelow Station and the remaining volumes of Foreigner now available. I know all your fans would love to see the whole works in ebook format. We try to be patient. I am sure you and your publisher would dearly love to profit from sales of those other books in ebook form. (Dare one wish for reprints in print of backlist books?)

Whenever I post about newly found available ebooks, it always generates a request from fans, especially in UK and all of Europe, Australia and New Zealand, for ebooks to be made available there. Heck, Shejidan has a few fans from other countries (in southern Asia, the Pacific, elsewhere) who comment less often but would love to read your books in ebook form.

And... We fans know you'd love for this to happen too. We know it isn't your wish to block that happening, both from friendly relations with other language speakers and from the need for gainful income. Heh. So... Is there perhpas some way this could be impressed upon the powers that be who can make the international sales rights Gordian Spaghetti Knot disappear? -- Whole continents of fans who'd buy eagerly would surely thank all and sundry with their purchases. Imagine it! Whole continents buying books!

If international readers could chime in to say yes, they'd love that, so that you could show printouts from, say, this blog and the Sheridan forum, would that help put the various publishers and gatekeepers in motion?

Meanwhile, we'll look forward to Tracker in April and Chanur's Homecoming, whenever it's finally released in ebook format. I presume it's in the pipeline toward release, and just hasn't yet shown up. Also, oddly, Chanur's Saga and Chanur's Endgame, the two collections, since they are essentially sandwiched together and should be simple to generate from the component volumes, into ebooks.

Fans have asked after the Finisterre / Riders series in ebooks, and surely the Faded Sun Trilogy and other currently in-print collections would be well received too.

Best Wishes as always!

Moderators: I entered a poll in a separate thread topic, however, despite setting the poll options to allow multiple choices and to allow replies, the poll is only allowing a single choice. Therefore, please Enable those or Delete the Poll topic, so we can provide something more useful, meaningful, and accurate. Thank you all, and I'm sorry for the extra confusion and frustration to the forum members and international fans. I am sure many would like both English and their native language, and some would like more than one language. (I would, for instance.) So the poll is not working as intended. Again, my apologies to all for the difficulty.

Kobo was "stuck" on the same 7 Foreigner ebooks for quite a long time; I got in the habit of running searches for the missing series titles on their site nearly every day and after a couple of months the rest of the series began to slowly appear until now all in-print volumes are available (the last to trickle in was "Explorer" last September). That may have been coincidence but there's a very good chance that I actually jacked up the search stats enough to prod 'em into action. Certainly can't hurt to try this on your local ebook publisher/distributor site.

Kobo is also still missing "Chanur's Homecoming" ... guess I'll have to try to remember to run that search frequently and see what happens. ;-)

Kobo for me in the UK is up to 12 titles - the usual plus Foreigner 4,5,6 I guess I'll have to keep searching!

Thanks all for the responses!

I'm in Canada; since Kobo is a Canadian company it's not surprising that the titles are showing up here first. But do keep running those searches on the UK Kobo site as frequently as possible so that their stats will give them incentive to get the rest of the series (when I was doing it I always searched for "cherryh" + title of book ... a separate search for each title rather than just a general "cherryh" search)

Edited to add a list of the thirty Cherryh titles available on the Canadian Kobo site since these are the most likely to someday also appear on the UK site (aka the best ones to create search stats for):

Alternate Realities (compilation containing "Port Eternity", "Wave Without a Shore", and "voyager in Night")
At the Edge of Space (compilation containing "Brothers of Earth" and "Hunter of Worlds")
Betrayer
Chanur's Legacy
Chanur's Venture
Conspirator
Deceiver
Defender
Deliverer
Destroyer
Downbelow Station
Explorer
Foreigner
Forge of Heaven
Fortress in the Eye of Time
Fortress of Dragons
Fortress of Eagles
Fortress of Ice
Fortress of Owls
Hammerfall
Inheritor
Intruder
Invader
Peacemaker
Precursor
Pretender
Protector
The Kif Strike Back
The Pride of Chanur
Tracker (available for pre-order)

Chanur's Homecoming is now available as a Kobo ebook! (so presumably also in other ebook formats/sources as well)

Must be recent as I know it wasn't listed on that site last week.

Edited To Add: -- It is still not showing up on Amazon / Kindle, but is showing up for Audible and in hardbound and paperback.

We remain hopeful.

Woo-Hoo! And other expressions exultant!

Chanur's Homecoming, the fourth book in the Chanur series of five books, is finally available for Kobo -- and now for Kindle! Thus, all five ebooks are available on both platforms. Really excellent news!

-----

Amazon also recommended Clean Sweep and Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews. It seems a lady innkeeper, her inn, her broom, her "dog," and her guests are not quite what they seem. It's apparently science fiction with infusings of fantasy. The summary reminds me of CJC, Andre Norton, and possibly Spider Robinson's old bar/saloon book. Ilona Andrews' two Innkeeper Series books are $2 and $5 each for Kindle, so a bargain. I'm not familiar with her writing, but the premise and summary sounded too good to pass up. Darn weakness for books.
