So who was the Peacemaker? I think it was Irene.

Yeah, I think so too.
Also, I think she's the best candidate for paidhi-apprentice. However, my premonition tells me something bad's going to happen; the people pressuring her mother will make a move?

As to new books, and the continuation of the Foreigner series - yes, more are in the cards, at least three, I guess, the way they are written.
And no, the possibility of the Compact reappearing after all these years are minuscule. Etcetera.
Still, one can hope? :atwink

I'm still guessing we're going to have a Bren health scare, which is going to throw everyone for a curve.

Cover blurbs are a fine art. Frequently, they spoil crucial plot points. This one goes wrong in completely the opposite direction, hinting that an attack occurs at the b-day party -- which doesn't. Unless one wishes to construe Damiri going into labor as such? That which Cajeiri feared -- sharing his felicitous day with his sister -- has come to pass. And (if deliberate) a brilliant maneuver on Damiri's part.

You guys certainly aren't providing many spoilers! :P What happens to Banichi and why does Bren have a headache?

The following are points that I believe have been set up for the next books beyond those mentioned above:

1) Even more Assassins' Guild (AG) fireworks when CJC mentions that not all of the Shadow Guild were apprehended.
2) Algini hasn't officially taken up a position in the new AG. Will he?
3) Where is Bren's relationship with Jago going? There was no intimacy mentioned nor even much personal interaction (although to be fair all the action takes place in less than a week and Jago is distracted by Banichi's wound).
4) The effect of the AG upheaval on the station. We think there are no Shadow Guild on the station, but...
5) What is Tabini's relationship with the AG going to be with persons he knows, but doesn't particularly find felicitous (Daimano) in power? Since the Old Guild are not particularly enthused about Tabini or humans this could become a bone of contention, or Tabini could use his "salvation" of the AG as a bargaining position.
6) How will the AG react to the kyo?
7) Will Tabini and Tatiseigi ever get to the station? What about Seimiro and Damiri?
8) What will happen with the Reunioners on the station, and how will the atevi manage their own ship? How many factions can we have to complicate matters in atevi space?

I know there are more but I'm sleep-deprived having read Peacemaker through cover-to-cover three times. The first for enjoyment; the second before writing an Amazon review; and the third to find the characters and places that need to be added or updated in the Shejidan wiki and looking for typos and grammar (a few errors with two prepositions which are obviously artifacts of editing). I've added most of the absolutely new characters and am now going through and adding new notes if people have changed responsibilities.

Just a reminder, there are several Foreigner books that need attention and everyone is invited to lend a hand. Just go to Wave Without a Shore and look at the topics on the row just above the title graphic. Of particular interest is the "Who's Who in Foreigner" tab and the "Shejicon IV Planning" tab. ShejiCon IV theme will be "Overturning the Odds (Bajio kabisu)"

Banichi is allergic to following doctor's orders and Bren still hasn't mastered ducking fast enough when things blow up. ;p

Then I'll exacerbate your condition by sharing a four-word exchange that cracked me up while reading:

"How is he?"
"Arguing."

Since Bren-nadi deals regularly with bureaucrats,
It would seem more rare for him ~not~ to have a headache,
Than to have one. :knife: :HB:

I think the next arc has to resolve the kyo issue. They have been, ever since the space travelers returned to earth, the chekovian gun on the wall. And it will surely take three books to work through whatever issues arise when they show up. I hope we see them this time next year.
Could Irene be Cajieri's secret consort, ala bren/iago? Certainly she seems to be a good paidhi candidate. Maybe all three of them will be paidhis. But I bet we won't see that happen. It would be at least a decade down the road, and of course Been will still be going strong then.

Also I think bren is the peacemaker. He made peace for admiring, he made peace with that guy from the. Mountain states, he sort of pretended to go in peace to ajuni, and so on.

Bren also acted as a Peacemaker between Damiri, (who seriously believed than Tabini, Ilisidi, or Tatiseigi was responsible for assassinating her Ajuri clan father) and Tabini. Bren's revelation that no it wasn't any of those individuals precipitated the final stage of her labor as well. Now we have another youngster (Seimiro) to follow!
