Just wondering, because it seems like it's been awfully quiet on the forum (I know, I know, I haven't exactly been one of the highest attendees of late myself).

Just wondering where everyone has been and how y'all are doing. :)

Well I'm still here too, Still semi-retired, working on the garden, coaching archery and marking exam papers. We seem to be in one of those inter :cherryh: book seasons when things here go a little quiet.

It's the last Friday of the school year, today. We will have a week of final exams next week, but school ends on Thursday, so I am enjoying the last real school day.

On the first day of a week's vacation. Granted we're spending it at home, but what's not to like about being able to sleep in?

Busy here in RL.  My current work has stupid deadlines attached to it – artificially imposed for political and no sensible reasons.

And the weather has turned.  It now feels like a proper Canberra winter: cold and wet, so wet over the weekend that I couldn’t attempt a test of what should be a fully operational dea … er, wood-fired oven.  It rained all day Saturday and the backyard needs to dry out a bit before we can risk too much foot traffic out there.  So the planned event for this coming holiday long weekend will be scaled back to an experimental firing and initial cooking session – maybe just some pizzas and a butterflied leg of lamb perhaps.  In other words, something simple and not too ambitious to start with.

I’m not getting much reading time, but am trying to split it between Hugo voter packet reading and other stuff such as the Babblers.  The good thing is I think I’ve read enough of the novel category nominees as I need to finalise my vote there, so that’s reducing the pressure a little compared with last year (and having already read two of the five nominees helped).  I’m now working on the novellas, with novelette, short stories and the Campbell nominees after that.  The downside is that I’m not getting to any of the books on The Pile (and that includes the new ones by Ken MacLeod, China Mieville, non-M Banks and so on).

Also, planning continues for the OS trip in Sep/Oct.  SWMBO and Youngest Daughter head to Louyang with the RSCDS dancers and will then have a few days in Beijing before meeting Hilfy and I in Hong Kong.  We’re all there for a week and I’m already collecting restaurant recommendations. J

That’ll do for now.

We've developed extra long toes with claws on, so we can hang onto the ground and not be blown away by this ridiculously windy weather. OMG.

I'm here. Reading lots, in multiple genres. Completing extensive professional continuing education requirements. Awaiting daughter's delivery of my first grandchild -- which should happen any day now.

Went to Mt. St. Helens here in Washington State ~3 weeks ago, 32 years nearly to the day it erupted in 1980. The region remains as fascinating as ever -- power of such magnitude boggles the imagination. Oh yes -- a few plumes of steam vented from the lava dome inside the crater when we were there.
