I am inclined to start out: "Very well, then, let’s begin, Bren." However, I think this will come off better if Bren is the one saying it to Banichi. I imagine him using it to practice keeping a straight face, perhaps? :atwink and, no, I don't really know why I did this. ____________________________________________________________ Very well, then, 'Nichi-ji, then. Let's have a little talk about tweetle beetles.... What do you know about tweetle beetles? Well... When tweetle beetles write, it's called a tweetle beetle ballad. And when they ballad oh so subtle, it's a tweetle beetle subtle ballad. AND when tweetle beetles ballad of salads oh so subtle, they call it a tweetle beetle subtle salad ballad. AND... When beetles ballad beetles in a subtle salad ballad and the beetle ballad salad is so subtle in a saddle... ...they call this a tweetle beetle saddle subtle salad ballad rustle. AND... When beetles write these ballads in a saddle with their salads and the saddle's on a travel and the travel's eating gravel... ...they call this a rustle subtle tweetle travel beetle gravel saddle salad ballad. AND... Now wait a minute, Bren-ji. When a Bren is in the saddle where the tweetle beetles ballad with their salads oh so subtle on a gravel-eating travel, THIS is what they call... ...a tweetle beetle gravel travell’d saddled salad rustled hustled fussled tussled Paidhi Bren, sir! Paidhi Bren, our game is done, sir. Thank you for a lot of fun, sir. ____________________________________________________________ I so wanted to rhyme subtle with shuttle. maybe another version later? |

oh, imagine if one did not recognize the source *! what an irredeemable loon I would seem then. come to think of it, maybe the original source has affected me more than I would like to believe :grin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vkAuJlaAWw |

Yes, but it springs to mind perhaps more readily if one has only recently reread it, which may not be the case for so many of us. [or perhaps I am just feeling an unjustified sense of smugness] |

well, I'm certainly not feeling smug- I posted this in the wrong forum! and was completely unaware of the fact until right this second. I thought, hey, why does that say The Cherryh Grove at the top there? I think Seuss is the kind of thing that lurks in the mind forever- in the shadows, perhaps, but always ready to leap out at you when you least suspect it. |

 It's the repetition. Oy, the repetition. Can you place this? "Hello." "Hello." "Do you like my hat?" "No. I do not like that hat." "Goodbye." "Goodbye." How many verses of Baby Beluga do you remember? Do you recall what the driver on the bus does? With the hand movement? And where the muffin man lives? I can't remember where I put my shoes and purse when I got home last night... but I can tell you everyplace that Sam-I-Am refused to try green eggs and ham! |

Dave Barry once said he couldn't remember more than two words of his wedding vows, but he could remember all the lyrics to The Beverly Hillbillies (and every commercial jingle he ever heard, no matter how inane). I feel much like that, only, I never watched The Beverly Hillbillies. I have, however, watched Happy Feet 500 billion times, and Finding Nemo, and Madagascar, and can pretty much quote those movies verbatim. sometimes I do so without even noticing it... the driver on the bus, the horn on the bus, the wipers on the bus, the doors on the bus, the parents on the bus, the babies on the bus, the people on the bus, the freakin chihuahuas on the bus- to listen to that song, you'd think Americans actually had decent public transportation! everyone is on the bus! |

And the Dalai lama, when asked whether he could remember any past lives, said he had enough trouble remembering what he'd eaten for breakfast that morning. |

You should hear my 2 year old granddaughter call out the lines to Nemo just before the actors do. She's seen that show at least a billion times! |
