Hi Tuuli, I had a fine midsummer too - had to get to bed early, worked the day after, but saw the sun set (it does that in southern Sweden but not in the north) and ate the pickled heerings, drank a "snaps" or two, picked flowers for a small maypole but left the dancing to others. Sorry you got sick, better luck next year!

When I was seventeen I had the great fortune to spend Midsummer on the shores of Lake Siljan in Dalarna, Sweden. My friends had a summerhouse there in a small village. I helped the village men raise the may pole and then we danced around it, many in traditional costume- it was fantastic!

A happy midsummer to all!
