Thank you Nandi, I thought that the name sounded 2 bells instead of one to me! I kept thinking Innana/Iannana out of the Ancient Sumerians...Not that one has anything to say against Browncoats!

Felicitations on the addition of Inara-ji to the family.

(Babies are so special, but then so are parents!)

 :fluffy:  :smooch: :Whee: I'll copy what others have said: beautiful baby, beautiful name. I also love the tradition of the heirloom "going home" gown. My daughter wore the same one I wore home after my birth. Many blessings on you and your family.

One hopes that she is not connected with the storm god ... If that is the case - best wishes for peaceful nights!

Oh, she is just absolutely gorgeous! One had forgotten how *small* they start out!

Congratulations to you both (or all three?) and I LOVE the gown!

Give a kiss to your sweet darling!

Or perhaps trying to sleep would be a better description.

As to the name origin debate ...

Both viewpoints hold merit.

The name was known to us as per Spence's surmise
Quote:

Also: In Hittite - Hurrian mythology, Inara was the daughter of the Storm-god Teshub or Tarhunt and the goddess of the wild animals of the steppe (in Greek mythology: Artemis).

- the addendum is she was also a dragon slayer ... always a good thing on a little lady's resume.

However, the name Inara did also come up again as per the wheedonesque browncoat angle. We are both long time followers of Firefly/Serenity since it's inception. The name also reminded us of dry dusty classes in archaeology many years ago when we first met.

Shall we say ... it all links together.
