in the "Torturing the Paidhi" thread, another* asked if there was a list of species and books. please add to this list: Chanur series (5 books) -Kif (two-jawed predatory bipeds; follow concept of sfik) -Mahen (ape/monkey-like bipeds; follow Personages) -Hani (biped lions, predatory; live in prides) -Stsho (3 genders; herbivores) -Knn (methane-breathers of great power) -tca (methane-breathers who act as go-betweens) -chi (methane-breathers; intelligence unknown/uncertain) -humans also...Dinner (live transportable food for Kif, who can't eat dead things) Cloud's Rider series (two books) -humans -(?) (horse-like quadrapeds; telepathic; like to eat bacon) Brothers of Earth -humans -nemet (Rome-like civilization; ruled by the methi) Hunter of Worlds -humans -iduve (biped carnivores; rule at least one galaxy; highly technologically advanced; no human emotions) Foreigner saga -humans (yes, again. :innocent ) -atevi -kyo -The Unknowns * = if "one" can mean "myself or someone else", might "another" be used in place of "someone, not me / someone not me" ? |

Alliance/Union/Merchanter (more novels than I care to count at the moment) Humans Hisa AKA "Downers" - natives of "Downbelow", the planet orbited by Pell station Calibans - semi-sapient reptiles from Gehenna Majat - insectoid race Regul - big evil fatasses Mri - mercenaries for hire Whatever the aliens are who own the planet Meroven ... I've forgotten their name I don't think the platytheres or ankyloderms of Cyteen count, as they're apparently mere animals. |

It was the sharrh who were ceded Merovin by Union. There are also the natives (the People?) in Hestia, and the suilti (elves) from The Scapegoat which is another A/U story. :invert |

Also in Hunter of Worlds, the amaut (short, tubby non-hobbit farmer types), and the protagonist's race, which I remember as something like kalia (but I can't lay hands on the book right now to check). Who are slightly built, with blue skin and silver hair. |

Yeah, they're the ones that look like Andorians on Star Trek. |

Those would be Nighthorses. Horse-like quadrupeds who are intelligent but not quite in the same way as humans, who communicate via telepathic images conveying their thoughts/feelings. There was one 'horse who enjoyed eating bacon, but I think that is mostly a personal preference for that particular beast. |
