Resa nadi, one agrees with you; most of what Caijeri muses about is appropriate, maybe especially the 'getting out' stuff. I did some of that myself, if I remember correctly. It's more his reflections regarding the intimate relationships between some adults I'm thinking about... Also agree on the stresses on Bren. He needs constant affirmation; that he don't get it from Tabini is why he has misgivings in that direction even when it is clear to the reader that they are unfounded. Should he not get it from Jago he would probably break down, fast. I was thinking along the lines of that at least Banichi understanding this (his refusal to leave Bren to serve Tabini?) and how this stress, or will to prevent that stress from developing, could produce a break between the working pair relationship between Banichi and Jago; the best thing for Bren is to have Jago around and that means they can't risk losing her on a dangerous mission... I don't know. That would put stress in may quarters, for sure. She is a licensed assassin, that's what she do best. She don't want to sit around playing teddy bear, even to a man she :salad:... I hope :cherryh: won't go there, I enjoy their relationship. Definitely want to see more of Tabini, Tano & Algini. Barb, avert! Thank goodness she stayed out of this book, at least in person... ;-) |

Very well said -- and I hadn't considered that about Banichi. That he may have also considered the emotional stress it would cause Bren if he/they left his service. I had only thought that they might worry that Bren wouldn't have enough instincts to know who to trust in such a dangerous situation and would end up dead fast. But you're probably quite right. Makes me want to re-read Deliverer... (sigh) Me want new Bren book ... |

Peacekeeper-ji, the story is 100% true: DAW commissioned #10, #11, & #12. Betsy Wollheim is especially fond of the FOREIGNER series. :atevi Herself is hard at work on #10 right now. :baji |

Oh, I found that exceptionally fun myself -- being a big Ilisidi fan. Poor Bren, though. I may be wrong, but I think it is a bit rude in Ragi to refer to a lord as "It". I hope we'll see more of Ilisidi's associates. |

Resa nadi: That was the point: "it" was a human, in the flesh (not person), just like some other animal, trained in fact like a mecheita. Therefore, not a Lord or deserving of politeness (and further, who cares about the Heavens?) |

Question, and hopefully someone can explain it to this introverted idiot: Going WAAAAAY back -- Why did Ilisidi get angry at Bren when he went to the astronomers and brought back information to Ilisidi? He thought he was helping Geigi (sp?), who seemed to be an associate of Ilisidi's (at least that's the way I was reading it, a friendly equal, as it were). |

Serendipity-ji, I believe that Geigi and Ilisidi were not yet associates at the time that Bren went to the astronomers. Bren regarded Geigi as an honorable member of the opposition who had received harm at the hands (or mouth) of humans. Of course, we all know the regard he had for Ilisidi. However, Geigi was still an associate of the coastal and southern powers. I think she was upset because his request would in some way force her to commit to actions that would publicly benefit her grandson. I think that is two separate items: Bren forcing her hand, and Tabini benefiting. I muse: perhaps Ilisidi needed to keep her position as a threat to the throne to both force Tabini to keep her priorities on his agenda, and also to gather his opposition under her control which, if she thought he could do the job, would minimize attacks that would intefere with his agenda. Just my thoughts tonight, no guarantees on what I'll believe or remember tomorrow... - Sandor |
