I'm in the process of downloading the pages to zip into a file for my comic-reader software (like the format I have the xXxenophile series and others in).

And we've gone quite :ot2 since the thread title is "David Cherry" but we've been talking about Phil Foglio for some time now. Without any help from Vetch even

:flower: My thoughts were always with you. I was busy contemplating and following the Vampirewatermelonwoman tangent. It will surely be a part of my NaNoWriMo.
:salad: (<-- this is as watermelonish as I can get with an icon.)

No, you simply must draw it up as a pornographic comic :atwink

Only under a false name... and I can't draw well enough... but I'm thinking... I could try and do it with icons...

I echo what Kroyd has said, underlined, italicized, and boldface-fonted!

This is more than just the standard Foglio jet-propelled lunacy, or funhouse ride. This really makes you think about how the roles of "heros" and "villians" are defined. But it's still a lunatic jet-propelled funhouse ride!

I now follow almost two dozen webcomics, GG is a favorite!

And I even have some of Foglio's stuff on dead trees (paper) also!

Gee, I've been out of comics for nearly 10 years -- tell me, when did it become respectable?

Nobody but kids and geeks read comics when I was doing them. It was not a respectable occupation. I seriously considered making up a alternative employment story, so that when anyone asked me what I did for a living I could say ANYTHING else.

(shakes head and goes off to have more tea)

:ot2 What is this respectability of which you speak? I track around 30 webcomix currently, and have to cull my favorites list on a semi-regular basis. Many of the artists support themselves through their comix, and do nothing else. And then....there's Penny Arcade. http://www.penny-arcade.com/ . They started in '98, and now are A Force To Be Reckoned With. They have their own Con, in Seattle, called PAX. Attendance at the last one was estimated at over 37,000 people. Resa, perhaps you should revisit your old habits. Kids and geeks and the internet go hand in hand, and many interesting creatures have arisen from the combinations.

Okay, hold on -- are you telling me that "The Penny Arcade" is but one comic? When you mentioned it, I assumed it was one of those multi-webcomic sites. I'm still thinking that it must be ... if they had their own convention.

My main contacts these days are the few people still trying to make a go at the paper comics, and I do know it's damn tough there. I ... know I believed some years ago that the web was the way to go, but ... the idea that people are actually making a living off of them, the way I did in the mid-90s, just blows my mind.

So -- more information please!

Hoookay, found the other comics. It is a multi-comic site. (breaths more calmly). I am a bit less shocked now that they'd have a convention. Kinda like the old "Small Press Expo" I attended in Southern California in the 90s.

Still -- may have to look into this a bit more. I'd pretty much written comics off as a way to make a living these days. If it isn't ... hmmm...

Just a minor clarification to my earlier psot: the podcast wherein I heard Foglio, Girl Genius and xXxenophile mentioned was actually The Adultspace Childfree Podcast, not Geek Fu Action Grip. I remembered this when I was listening to more of tASCFP today and a couple of 'casts re-used an intro wherein a bombastic male voice proclaims: "Ha ha! This is Othar Trygvassen, Gentleman Adventurer! And you are listening to the Adultspace Childfree Podcast! Ha ha! Cocoa and schnapps all around!"

:ot2 Penny Arcade is a single webcomic, updated MWF. Scott Kurtz over at pvponline is in the same biz. Applegeeks, Girlswithslingshots, GUComix, CtrlAltDelete, Scarygoround....the list goes on and on. The Dreamland Chronicles is another favourite, with a 3D animation style. Kurtz is publishing a book in early '08 called How to make Webcomics. http://www.pvponline.com/blog/3475/halfpixel-stuff is the page the info is on. Most of the comix I read accept donations from paypal or similar institutions, some even have donation trackers. Exclusive wallpapers and sketchs are usually offered in return. 3 comix that I know of have made deals with animation studios, and are releasing video shorts by subscription and payperview. Some have stores selling strip compilation books, models, t'shirts, plushies and so forth. I wish I had more solid info for you, but I don't draw particularly well, I just love to look at the shineys.
