The search engine doesn't work, so I dare to post this. There is so much on her on Wikipedia, it's a great joy to browse! They even have an article on her concept of Jump I am specially touched by this:
There's a link to Shejidan, too. :flower: Did anyone of you esteemed Sheji-chans contribute to Wikipedia's knowledge of the Goddess? (Here is where it starts.) |

Only in very small matters vetchi-ji. Spelling corrections and ahem the plot summery for "The Paladin". Strange that :) I'm user:shoka on Wikipedia strangely enough. :shoka |

Ah, but I knew some of our esteemed Sheji-chans must have contributed! Cool name you chose for the great Wiki, shoka! Me, I am 'Vetch' over there, no idea why... :flower: But I haven't made any contribution... ah, yes, I think I corrected something about Snape once. Actually the German section isn't as great as the English. There is work to do! <having finished downloading as much of stePH's Cyteen as possible now off to read the Paladin's plot summary> edit: I am back from the Wiki, where I realized (ARGH!) that I haven't yet read The Paladin (ARRGH!). Must not read plot summary! |

It's only a brief outline of the first half of the book. Hopefully not too much damage done. But you are indeed right, better to read the book first. Personally I like the book a lot, but it's neither fish nor fowl for some folk. Its not SciFi, nor really Fantasy. It's more a historical novel/love story in a place and time that didn't quite happen anywhere, though medieval Japan is probably somewhere close. It's part of no series, and :cherryh: has not seen fit to publish a sequel. Or a prequel for that matter. :shoka |

No damage done at all. :flower: It was really as I wrote: The moment I started to read it hit me that I shoouldn't, and I stopped. But "historical novel/love story in a place and time that didn't quite happen anywhere, though medieval Japan is probably somewhere close" looks quite good to me! There is SO MUCH Cherryh I haven't read yet... it used to bother me, but after I've seen all Mifune-Kurosawa-films I realise how wonderful it is to have something by your favourite artist that you don't know yet, something you gotta track down patiently, something NEW! |

I REALLY like Paladin. something about it I find soothing. It has her usual voice, but is very different from the sci fi and the fantasy. Much more rooted in the material world than the fantasy, has none of the cloudy sometimes hard to follow magic stuff. |

Kkkkt! So did I. I liked the 'non-magical but not historical fiction' approach myself. One reviewer called the Paladin "a novel set in a mythical ancient Asia", which is pretty close to the mark. A la Feist, without the magic. As for movie versions, there's an even better Polish movie version called Sara, which is rather more serious and dramatic than the Assassin / Leon, as it was variously known around the world. And hey, it was the quick brief movie that Besson made in order to win favour in the US to tie in the US funding for Le Element Cinquieme! Kkkkt! Hakkikt, Mead, WA, 1609 [0109GMT] Fr 2 11 07 |

Yes, we're having you on:D But similar in concept to the Paladin. These are older man protecting younger woman/girl, and teaching her the trade of killing movies. One is US and by Luc Besson, the other Polish by a Polish director. Prob blurb about them on wiki as well as imdb... Kkkkkt. Hakkikt, 1631 [0131GMT] F.2 11 07 |

Well, I'm disappointed. I'd love to see the real thing in a movie. this is one book that, if handled properly, could be done well. |
