Ilira did an amazing job! One may confidently assure you everyone's labors have not gone unnoticed by Herself. :cherryh: :ph43r: :cherryh:

Even if Regeneration's manuscript were lost, it would not be an issue. It is on Herself's computer -- and I have an hard-copy printout of the manuscript as well. Although I don't know why there *seems* to be a delay, one speculates that galley turn-around may have been affected by the recent holidays.

I have not been able to visit here for a few months -- another long, dreary, medical story -- but I have greatly missed the stimulating discussions and am happy to finally!! be able to return and drink from the well again. And what is one of the first things I discover? This simply marvelous, wondrous, wondrous reference work. What a great gift to all Foreigner fanatics ... such as me. My heartfelt thanks to all for all the incredible work that went into it. You folks are pretty amazing.

Is Regeneration going to be a DAW release?
I keep checking the list of Upcoming releases on the web site, but no mention of Regeneration.
I wonder how long from Galley to publishing...

Yes, CYTEEN II: REGENERATION will be published by DAW.

Based on nothing more than personal observation, it seems like it is ~6-9 months from galley proofing to new book clutched in your Hot Little Hands.

One inquired of Herself :cherryh: yesterday evening if receipt of the galleys was imminent.

One regrets to report that Herself :cherryh: has heard only Deafening Silence.

Nadiin, one did not discuss this with Herself, but one is wondering if DAW received multiple, impassioned entreaties, begging and pleading for CYTEEN II, that the process might be hurried along? One has no idea, but believes it can't hurt to try. Threatening to gnash teeth & rent garments might also help.

If all else fails, the Guild may need to get involved. :shoot:

One knows for a fact (directly from Betsy Wolheim & Sheila Gilbert during a con panel) that DAW hears from Faithful Readers these days mostly via email: clicky for DAW's site.

Apropos to the question of when Cyteen II will appear, I thought the following partial discussion from another forum might help illuminate the publishing process for associates here:

Quote:

JB:  However just missing a deadline is not the end of the world as long as you give the publisher plenty of notice that you are going to f*ck them around. By that, I mean at least eight or nine months advance warning. Publishing, especially in the US, is a hugely drawn out process, as anyone who visits here is probably coming to see. Your novel is not the only one slouching towards the best seller lists. In any given year your publishing house will put out hundreds of titles if they are a big multinational, and your editor will work on many more books than yours. They can cover you. But they prefer everything to run as planned, obviously. For all the reasons Hughesy points out below.

Quote:

Hughesy:  Failing to meet a delivery deadline for publisher generally doesn't mean the book will be out late - but it does tend to put increased pressure on the editor and PR people. Ed needs to get the copy together for the advance publicity, and the later that runs, the less time there is for the book to sink into the consciousness of the sales reps and then booksellers. It also gives them less opportunity for strategic placement of the book into the market - ie, to get in first with their PR gear.

The trouble with publishing is that in this day and age, with hundreds of books (thousands if you go international) coming out every month, it's getting harder and harder to find a stand out niche, hence the longer lead times. It only takes a week or so to print the book, but as much time as you can possibly get to market it.

:invert

Mule, I won't start my anxious pacing until I have seen a publication date.

Because Herself :cherryh: hasn't posted a Progress Report since 3 Feb, I just wanted to reassure everyone that all is well.

It's always nice to see the word count balloon like this. It's going very, very well. This book should begin an arc that will carry the series into deeper—stuff. And I cannot adequately express my thanks to the people at www.shejidan.com who have done so much to help. All my reference books are in boxes, and I have asked these good people to come up with miracles of research.

*word count

**bold is my emphasis

I must admit that sometimes I get a bit concerned, but less so than I might once have been.

I know that :cherryh: has elderly relatives, galleys of great length with impossible turn-around times liable to arrive at any moment, etc. Also, the normal exhaustions, discouragements and petty illnesses and trials of life (dead battery in a cold climate!). Much as I have enjoyed her daily updates of the mundane details of her quotidian existence, I can understand that it might be sometimes burdensome to keep this up when stressed.

Still, I am curious about the fate of Cyteen II, an obsession of absurd degree of mine, along with Portrait of a Lady and several of Jordan's novels in which I love the details and characterization. For me, :cherryh: 's sensibility is much closer to James (like sipping Benedictine) than Jordan, however.

All three novels/series are tales of growth, personal change--or sometimes inability to change--and adaptation.

And as I write this, I never thought about the comparison of James and :cherryh: before. But I guess I do reveal my tastes in literature through the comparison, though I'm hardly a James scholar.

The manuscript was sent to DAW ~Oct 3rd...and :cherryh: has yet to see the galleys, due to the vagaries of the publishing industry. One suspects they will arrive in the very near future. :baji

As for Carolyn's elderly mother, now in her 90's: we are firmly convinced she is going to outlive us all!
