I just got off the phone with Herself. She :cherryh: specifically requested the following message be posted to Shejidan associates: Herself is unable to update her Progress Report as she is unable to access it *at all*. She can't figure out what is wrong so plans to contact the Front Page (software?) people about it. In the interim, Herself is afraid to tinker more with it for fear of breaking the many links. She will update her blog ASAP, once She can access it. :HB: :t What I *assume* would probably be posted in her Progress Report: All is well. Jane did the alpha-read for Cyteen 2: no mean feat. :cherryh: then edited the manuscript, incorporating Jane's input, at a rate of about 200 pages /day. She is exhausted from these Sisyphean labors, but the manuscript is done & was mailed to the publisher yesterday. Jane is busy decorating for Halloween. Skating: Herself started landing waltz jumps away from the boards ~a week ago. Jane's birthday is coming up Oct 24th, so Carolyn & I are now plotting for that. :pum |

Thanks for that, Sk8er. As it happens, I was just at Her site looking for a blog update. :) Good news about the Cyteen 2 manuscript. Which publisher is it, so I can keep haunting their schedules? :invert |

I think it might be related to the fact that the last entry on her blog is so very big! I think she should have split it in half and then started a third entry. |

Well, this is a relief! I generally check for updates at least weekly, and was beginning to worry that something untoward was happening. Can't wait for Cyteen 2 to hit the shelves! |

I'm more than a little OCD - I check for updates twice a day. Even knowing that they only happen every couple of weeks. Thank you very much, sk8er-ji, for putting my mind a little more at ease. Peace, Suzdal |

Definitely, Sk8ter-ji, thank you for this information. I knew that Her mother was quite elderly and had been ill, and that gave me a very unpleaseant idea why She might not be blogging. It's a relief to learn that my assumption was wrong. (I'm even worse -- I check the thing 4-5 times a day!) You are felicitous indeed! |

Yes. Thanks for the update. I too was getting a little concerned. And Robert Jordan's death casts an additional psychological shadow. So glad that the silence resulted from a computer software problem, not a human software OR hardware problem. Must be an incredible load off her mind to get the thing off to the publisher. I hope it will be recognized in the market as a great achievement, like Cyteen I, but I wouldn't be surprised if she put a couple of other books on hold while this one advanced to an unplanned for length. Celebrate! |

Herself's mom is actually doing better overall. Better than most of us would be doing at ~age 90, that's for sure! :zimmer  |

Sk8er-ji Do you happen to know what the final word count was? 1 volume or 2? Just curious. |

I just asked Herself what the final word count was. Reply: both 1 & 2 have approximately the same word count. Herself also says: Explorer 7 is what botched up her site: apparently it is incompatible w/ Front Page. She may have to take it all down & re-install it. Spence, I passed on your thought about maybe the post or page was too long. Herself felt this was not the problem. I also passed on that Shejidan Associates were relieved to hear that all was well; that the silence was a simple computer problem. My version of Herself's :cherryh: Progress Report for today: Skating. Herself has a beautiful new skating dress (deep purple velvet w/ glitter on the bodice). I threatened to steal it, should Herself be careless enough to ever leave it unguarded. We had lunch together after skating & discussed, among other things, the intricacies of baseball. This included the pitching zone & strategy related to how the brain interprets & anticipates; overpaid prima donnas, and "adjustments" <polite cough> made in full view of TV cameras. Herself & Jane are now home, doing the Dreaded Accounts. :shoot: |

Has Cherryh ever considered moving her journal over to one of the blog pages? I believe you can even attach your domain name to your page and it can be set for "no comments". (I assume with her schedule, she'd probably not be so happy to have 50 or 60 comments for every entry written ... scary!) Livejournal, for instance, also has lots of other lovely features, such as 'tags' for finding specific entries, a spellcheck, the ability to backdate entries (for those vacations to Mom's), and tons of lovely layouts. And Semagic (freeware livejournal program) lets you easily update without going to the website. Anyway -- just a small suggestion. Not everyone is a fan of the online blogs. Best - Resa |

I have wondered the same thing.... a hosted blog would be simpler to update and maintain. And most of the rest of :cherryh: .com hasn't been updated in ages... |
