Wow, house numbers in THREE places!!! Here in rural NJ the emergency response folks are beating their brains out trying to get people to post it in just one! We only got 911 street numbers a few years ago, and in certain more affluent communities having a house number and street address is considered just tooooo middle class.

Here in L.S. we had a law or something passed a few years ago where we could actually be fined if the street number wasn't able to be seen from the curb. That meant a lot of people had to actually go out and BUY house numbers! :Arrgh: And the numbers needed to be placed in a certain area some where near the front door. Nothing was ever said about what to do at night!!! I guess if you need 911 at night you'll somehow be able to crawl to the front door and turn on the outside light. :HB:

There's an unfortunate semi-scam in our area that involves brochures that show up in your mailbox implying that if you don't have your house number painted along the curb in front of your house in regulation-sized black numbers on a white background, you might not get ambulance service when you need it. Of course, there.s no such regulation. If you contact these guys to have the work done, they'll pocket your money and do a real fast sloppy job with cheap paint and a stencil - it takes them all of about 30 minutes, and that's only because they wait for the white background to get more-or-less dry before doing the numbers. The paint wears off in just a couple of months ... .

For Xmas last year, my sister-in-law got me a lighted rock house number. No, really. It looks more or less like a small boulder, but it's made of plastic, and has a clear, lighted window into which you insert plastic house numbers (which come with the rock). It's solar powered, too! I refuse to have such an object in my yard ... .

I've been at work the past 2 days, returning home last night. I dropped in this afternoon to see how things are progressing. The house is really shaping up. Curtains have been hung. Small furniture items have been moved over. Jane's bedroom hasn't been painted yet -- because she's still not sure what color. Other than that, painting is done for now. Quite a few things have been moved over from the apt, & the place is beginning to look as if someone lives there, even though they won't formally move in until next week.

Ysabel :Acat: & Efanor :Acat: now come over during the day, & return for the nights to the apt. with Carolyn & Jane. They aren't quite certain about all this yet, but we expect they will be more enthusiastic once "their" furniture & accoutrements are in place.

The cable installer is coming Monday, then the home office can be dismantled & moved. The reef aquarium will be drained on Wed, moved, then refilled on Thursday. It sounds as if I will be lugging sloshing buckets of water... :fish

Ooh, how wonderful. It looks very cozy and felicitously arranged. I like the living room. It's quite a relaxing color, and yes, much improved over the Aqua Fresh mint paint.

Mmm...piano....

No photos exist of the blue plaid / Thomas Kinkaid landscape wallpaper that (formerly) adorned the walls of Carolyn's room.

Pity! I would've given money to see that!

Carolyn said she actually got some pics of the plaid wallpaper. Glad of it, 'cause it was ripped down before I could get there. All I did was scrape off what was left of the backing.

Not only can your fave author write -- but she is vicious with unwanted wallpaper!

sounds like quite an enterprise. a most rewarding one, though. and yes, one thinks that the author who dreamt up Narani could do some mean decorating.

nobody's found any Jesus light-switch covers? :innocent

Huge progress today: the professional movers emptied the apt. Just 2 more storage garages to go tomorrow. :baji This afternoon shortly after I walked in, one of the movers asked if I lived there also. Jane said, "No -- but she might as well!"

The reef aquarium is in position, but needs to have water cycled through before the fish & corals can come home. They are being boarded at the fish store in the interim. :w: I'll be lugging buckets of filtered water up the stairs tomorrow or Saturday.

All planned painting was completed several days ago. Jane remains undecided about what color she wants for her room, so her furniture is being set up now & she will paint later.

Efanor :Acat: & Ysabel :Acat: are very pleased by their new home -- at least, after their accoutrements were moved over. Efanor spends the nights running up & down the basement stairs, yowling in order to hear his own voice.

I've been very surprised by the wonderful furniture & 'artifacts' that have made appearances over the past week, delightful objects I had never seen. All have been in storage ever since the move from Oklahoma. Jane says even they've been surprised, by things they've forgotten that they had.

Bottom line: tonight Carolyn said, with great satisfaction: "This is our house." :t

I know that feeling. when I bought my house here in Vegas, I felt ownership protected me from unsympathetic land owners.

Yes, spence. Herself's comment also reflected how it fits them, and also that they now have a place for their many accoutrements. Herself finally feels at home.

I forgot to mention: the computer are not connected yet, so Herself & Jane remain offline. No emails or blogging for now. I don't think Herself is writing much either.

I wouldn't be writing much either. Except maybe to jot down notes if I had an idea/thought.

I can understand their feelings. They didn't sound very happy in their apartments. But i didn't know much about their history.

Still don't, actually. But that's OK.

I CAN understand not wanting to mow the lawn, etc. I don't like lawns, spent too many hours of a misspent your attending them.

I would like a garden, however. Or maybe a greenhouse....

Oh dream on, Reptile
