If that's so, perhaps Sk8er can email a pic. For security reasons, I would suggest not posting a photo of the private abode of our favorite writer. |

Security & privacy are exactly why I haven't posted a pic, or the real estate link to it. This is something I would prefer to run by Carolyn & Jane before doing. |

makes perfectly good sense, thanks The security/privacy issue honestly didn't occur to me -- in Virginia home sales are public record (even including the price) and are published in the newspaper, as well as available at the Court House. A holdover from simpler times I suppose. Oddly, there is no legal way to look up a license plate to find our who owns a vehicle (private investigators with licenses can do this). :cheers |

My schedule finally cleared long enough to *finally* tour Carolyn & Jane's new house for the first time this afternoon. It is wonderful -- and will be even more so after they do everything they wish to it. The space they have gained is incredible compared to their previous apartments. The carpeting: I share Carolyn's opinion of it. Not the worst -- but I don't care for it very much either: a brown shag salt-&-pepper. Carolyn & I finished stripping her bedroom of all the wallpaper. It really was quite dreadful: dark blue plaid, paired with a Thomas Kinkaid landscape border. All you could hear from us this afternoon was the "soft sound of ripping". Jane spent hours cleaning up the "goop" left on the maple kitchen cabinets. We finished out today by stripping contact paper (in a tiny strawberry pattern) from all of the kitchen cabinets. :Arrgh: The new computer desk is partially assembled, and fits perfectly into the new office. What will become the library downstairs has incredibly bad floral wallpaper. But -- it will be covered by books, floor to ceiling. Don the Plumber was there, working on several projects including a closed system for the aquarium sump pump. We return tomorrow for more punishment.... |

Interesting. I hope Jane and Carolyn end up with the safe, comfortabloe, usable palace they want, need, and deserve. Any decision of their part about photos? I would respect the security issue--I just don't know how significant in their case--everybody's situation is different. On the other hand, you don't have to include the address, but some locals could probably guess from the photo and other clues. Your go, but do respond about the decision. I know that Jane and Carolyn take good photos--they have good eyes. |

It sounds like it will be a wonderfull house. How I hate DIY, just the thought of it makes me :Arrgh: it always seems to take longer, and cost more, than you expect, even when you allow for it being more than you expect! But much better to do now than when they are fully moved in. Photos would be good - :baji |

Hah! There's DIY and DIY, though it sounds like you have plenty of experience. I just have almost finished a complete kitchen rehab, with nearly every utility outlet at least "touched" as my wife put it. And all the plumbing, gas lines moves within the wall, etc, etc. All because I attacked two 80 year old (crappily built) cabinets with a sawzall 4 months ago t get rid of a roach infestation. These things sometimes landslide. What I hate most is the construction dust/debris. Plus these things seem neverending, are costly, etc. etc. But on the other hand, the kitchen seems very nice and much more usable. I envy CJC and JF their cozy little house, and the work described doesn't sound too extreme. I certainly don't envy moving, though |

Carolyn gave the OK to post a house pic, so watch for that in the next few days. Great strides have been made by the "Tau Ceti Home Renovation Crew"*. Carolyn & I got the most complex part of the kitchen repainted. She was able to do the pantry prior to my arrival. We'll finish the kitchen tomorrow, as well as at least 1 bedroom. Maybe even both, now that the blue plaid wallpaper is kaput? The paint chosen for the living room was so bright it *glowed*, so it will be used elsewhere & a new, less eye-popping color selected. However, the kitchen & pantry look great. It took Carolyn & I, together, to assemble the new baker's shelves for the pantry: a comedy of errors, but we triumphed. Jane waged war on installing new doorknobs. She declared a truce for the night, but I'm certain you'll be hearing more as Jane continues the battle. Motto: "Our Work is Out Of This World" :UFO |

"Welcome to our new home". I'm not sure what Carolyn is pointing at Jane's head. Screwdriver -- or gun? :shoot:  Posted Image Note the charming attire. Mine looked even more disreputable. |

Trial of a new living room paint color. Verdict: a resounding "no!". Too bright! Note the muti-toned brown shag carpeting that Carolyn would love to rip out. Posted Image Current library wallpaper, which will be mercifully obscured by floor-to-ceiling bookshelves: Posted Image No photos exist of the blue plaid / Thomas Kinkaid landscape wallpaper that (formerly) adorned the walls of Carolyn's room. |

Thanks Sk8er. It doesn't quite match the mental pictures i had ( I saw more trees in shot from the street approach for some reason) but I'm sure I'll cope. Please pass on our best wishes for success in redecoration activities! :invert |
