Herself :cherryh: is writing up an absolute storm. It is a joy to see how happy this makes Herself! Jane says Cyteen 2 is "REALLY good" & "Serious fun". wOOt!! Note the huge word count! :bunny7:

:cherryh: Progress report was updated today. Note the help Herself is requesting, please: my emphasis, in yellow. If you know the answer, please email Herself at <cj *aatt* cherryh *ddott* com> -- with "COMLINK" in the subject line, or some other obvious identifier to signify your email is not :spamman: . For example: "Ari's Safeword = BANANA" :banana. Alternatively, post here, & I'll see your reply is promptly delivered. :baji

7/20/07 Friday. 162810.

And we keep going. I'm making steady, good progress. If anybody knows what I said Sam's Maria's last name was, I'd be ever so grateful. I've looked for it up and down. I also got an attack of sanity and instead of buying a pricey calendar, I've just made some squares in a matrix and am filling it out by hand. The book begins in 2424, in March. And when I checked the perpetual calendar, 2424's days of the week exactly match 2007. I think that's cosmic, or something. So all I have to do is know what day it is—not quite as bad as Dekker, eh?

Her name is Maria Cortez-Campbell. Chapter 13, section v, Page 573, in the hardback version of Cyteen. I did send an e-mail to herself, but wanted to post it here for the sake of redundancy. :baji My encounter with Cyteen was flawed, as I didn't realize at the time that it had been split into 3 parts and wasn't actually a trilogy. I was introduced to :cherryh: thru Exile's Gate, and was looking for something else to read when I saw the copy of Cyteen: The Vindication on the shelf. It took me two years to find the other two parts. But it all turned out well, as I now have an autographed copy of Cyteen on my bookshelf, along with many other hb Cherryh novels. And Skater-ji, thanks for being there, for cj and jane, and for those of us who have been lurking around this site without posting for years, just watching with :salad: for you all.

Kroyd-ji, one should have offered you :t ! Please excuse my lapse!

At dinner tonight I alerted Carolyn that the answer Herself sought was waiting from Kroyd in her inbox. As suspected, she hadn't checked Her email today. She said, "Trust a fen to know the answer!"

BTW, Herself wrote *8,000* words today! I was staggered; Herself indicated it was easy. When I asked if Herself was close to the end of Cyteen 2 yet, She replied, "I'm over the hump." Herself will be spending tomorrow morning writing also, instead of canoeing. That should make you all happy!

Nadiin, one thanks you both for the welcome and :t . Would there perhaps be some keis available? :atwink The e-mail I sent to herself was very barebones, just the info and location reference, as I have no desire to disrupt her writing at this point. I, too, am on that big strong limb, wanting my Cyteen sequel. However, I should admit to the fact that the one time I did meet herself, at a booksigning for Fortress of Owls (at a now-out-of-business bookstore called Adventures in Crime and Space), I couldn't manage basic language skills then either. One could hardly fall on hands and knees to give proper obeisance :inlove: , yet she was very gracious and inscribed my book with Shon'ai as I asked. (I was in a very mri mood that day). Skater-ji, if you would, when there are no more pressing issues to be discussed, let herself know that I meant no disrespect, and that my intent was only to get herself the information she sought without intruding any further into her very busy life. Oh, yes, and one other thing...the only books of hers that I haven't read are a few of the merovingen nights, and the Rusalka trilogy, which I'm saving for a rainy day. :ot2 Rumor has it that Johnny Depp is going to play Barnabas Collins in a remake of Dark Shadows.

Kroyd-ji,

One will be pleased to convey your messages. Please do not fear Herself; she bites no harder than Ysabel! :Acat:

BTW, were you ever a member of the Shon'ai fen group? I'm compling the history of Shejidan, & there is a brief section devoted to Shon'ai.

One feels it would be safe to pass along the following info, from Her Janeness:

1) Cyteen 2 is nearly done. Of course, there is editing, so it will be a while before it is in everyone's greedy little hands. I did not ask if it has been assigned a date in the publishing que yet.

2) Yes, Cyteen 2's word count is huge. However, it will most likely be published in 1 volume, and not split up.

3) Do not be surprised if there is a Cyteen 3 someday. While there is "lots of action" in #2, the story is apparently not finished yet. :baji

Good news in general, but the quoted bit is, IMHO the best news of all! :Whee: :toot: :flower: :bunny7: :squee

So there may be a real "Cyteen trilogy" at some point in the future :)

Now if only we could destroy all extant copies of "The Betrayal", "The Rebirth" and "The Vindication"

I'm so excited!!! I wonder if it will be out in time for the holidays ... .

:cherryh: Herself once said that trilogies happen because every story has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. So I am not that surprised at the idea of a Cyteen 3.

Cho-ji,
I suspect it will be at least 6 months before Cyteen 2 hits the bookstores. Has anyone seen anything in Locus?

I haven't asked about the publication date, but after hanging out with The Girlz long enough, I am getting a feel for how long it takes for Carolyn to self-edit a manuscript prior to submission; the time frame for the galleys to be set up, then approved; printing of the review copies & publicity, and then finally! printing of the book, and distribution. The publisher also must determine where it fits in their que. It takes forever!

I'm very much hoping Cyteen 2 will be done long enough in advance of WorldCon-Denvention to be considered for a Hugo. :baji

Given that the only copy of Cyteen I have is in that form, you would have to pry them
from my cold dead hands :sor: :sob: before I permit their destruction. I've got better things to do with my cash than to replace perfectly good books. Like buy all-new books. :innocent
