My mother is looking for this afghan because she wants to crochet one just like it! (Wish I was kidding. . . 102.gif )

I'll let her know that Cajeiri's soon to be sibling of unknown gender and multiple lineages represented by colors is in need of a baby afghan. . . . She and Miranda-ji can conspire! 24.gif

I honestly did not belive I could follow that pattern and just grabbed what was handy. AND! Someone here mentioned multi-color baby blanket! I've seen some multi-color yarns that are just as bad to my eyes. Considering the size of about 60" square, it could be an Atevi baby blanket. A crib blanket is an average of 36" x 60". (I think. It's been a long time since I made a full-size crib blanket.)

I'm really curious what an Atevi baby might weigh at birth and how long before Bren couldn't pick up "his" son or daughter should Jago contract for a child. I want Cenedi for the papa. Intelligence, good looking, skilled Assassin with leadership skills. Isildi has good taste, so of course he's handsome. Wouldn't be around all of the time, which would rule out Tano and Algini. I doubt he'd want the job of Daddy. We'll see how much maternal instinct Isildi has pretty soon. (Put down whatever you're drinking....) Can anyone imagine Isildi cooing?

Come up with some color combinations that aren't as hideous and I'll make some simple, preemie size, color block things. I have single skeins of way too much yarn. I can donate them next winter to a local hospital. Yes, in this area, I could make a red/black blanket for school colors. There are rabid grandparents everywhere. It would be predominately Red with some Black and could be used over the car seat as the child grew. The pattern I used has a long stitch when it changes color, but I'm afraid littles would catch feet in them.

Miranda-ji, what I imagined was MUCH worse than what was on the graphic. Much. Yarn ends, not full rounds. That strange puke green colour that somehow continues to exist next to neon pink and that next to brick red or, worse, true orange...oh, yes. I can imagine much, much worse. Pretty pattern, though.

As for Ilisidi cooing over a baby--very easy to see. A baby isn't old enough to disappoint her yet. Or be a danger to vases, glasses, decorative concrete, walls, boats, cars, and small animals.

The perennial favourite: Jago with a baby. Fun thought, but until Bren reproduces...unlikely at best. There was more than one mention in the 2nd trilogy of Bren saying he would welcome children, but none of his staff would stay *and* have children while he was single without children. Imagine Jago with a baby boy...mini-Banichi! Imagine Banichi as a grandfather...almost as good as Ilisidi with a toddler.

I know what sort of yarn you're talking about! The recycled sari silk! Either beautiful, or very weird.

I take it you're talking about variegated, multi-colored yarn thread, rather than the simpler cases where the thread goes from a dark color through its brighter and lighter shades and tints into white; and rather than the other variant I've seen where the yarn has two such color gradations, either A-white-B or A-B, both with gradients from white through tints to bright to shades.

Recycled sari yarn? Interesting and, in terms of what that might produce when woven...a bit foreboding, heheh.

"...Bren reproduces..." -- :wide-eyed: He can do that? Really? Has someone apprised him he can do this and how? Wheeeee..... Ahem, hysterically. (Yes, just having a bit of fun at Bren's expense.) (Looks awkwardly at self.... Dang, somehow awkward how the same would be different in application to self....)

I may try weaving with this stuff, but I didn't like trying to crochet with it. I bought cheap, probably not the best quality.

This is not the people I bought my yarn from, but it will give you a better idea of the color variations. Some are truly random. This is a good site that explains the spinning of the yarn along with selling it. Speaking as a weaver, there are a lot of scrap threads left when weaving.

If it were available fine enough, it might be crocheted into lace? Multi-weird lace trim on a baby item? I might get the effect if I crocheted two strands of varigated thread together... Ick....

Oh how very unusual. Random, yes. Hmm... I wonder if you could achieve a marbled effect, or if the color variations result in a randomized look regardless.

I could easily see that being used by Ferengi for costumes, or in one of Neelix's costumes.

Hmm... It might work for the Firefly / Serenity fandom too.

I'll pass along the link over at the Signal Podcast forum and the TerraFirmaScapers forum. You never know who might be interested, and some folks would like supporting a women's cooperative.

Huh... Anything made from yarn that variegated would have an almost psychedelic quality to it. Wild.

Hmmm... I wonder about ties, vests, or shirts? Scarves or mufflers? ... Cunning hats? ateviwink.gif

While still not the kind of colour combinations that inspire nausea...Fun! First I have to be good and get through all the yarn I have hanging about. *Then* I can try something like this. Definitely a psychedelic feel to the colors...tie-dye.

Hippie atevi, a new heretical movement. Just imagine the flower crowns, ponchos, bell bottoms...and peace signs, which may or may not be felicitous, depending upon how one counts. flower.gif

Miranda or others -- friends at TerraFirmaScapers really were interested, but two have pointed out that site appears to have been "out of stock" of some items for a long time, without updating or removing the items. Do you (or does anyone) know if ordering from the site is problematic or is trouble-free? Just curious. It looks like some are keeping it bookmarked for when they need more yarn. smile.gif

Just do a Google search for recycled sari silk. There are quite a few people selling the yarn and items made from the yarn. Prices vary widely due to quality and quantity.

Would your Atevi hippies wear their hair loose?

I suspect if you took all the loose ends from a weaving studio and didn't sort them at all, you could get the violently ill combination. It would depend on what colors they had been working on. Colors do go in and out of fashion.
