Managed to catch up with avt and Marah this afternoon. Have not yet managed to find Triscuit, but a guild message has been left on the voodoo message board.

The voodoo message board is great! It's a real thrill to find a message for yourself waiting there. I also loved seeing who was actually attending & was there.

Surtac, if you run into Danny Lieberman, he is also a friend of mine. Great guy, very fun; he lives in NYC. AvT & Marah introduced us in Montreal; maybe they will do the same thing for you?

Danny always volunteers. He may be doing Treasury this year, but I can't quite recall. I was "volunteered" at Worldcon-Montreal -- and discovered it was a fabulous way to meet people & make new friends. Worldcon would have been fun without helping out -- but because the experiences I had through volunteering, became FABULOUS. I really, REALLY liked talking to everyone from around the world and making friends with people like Danny that I am still in regular contact with. Last year's Worldcon was in many ways life-changing for me, the way attending my very first con was.

I envy you!

Cross-posted: Aussiecon4 2010 Hugo winners.

I understand this is the first time in 17 years that there has been a tie for "Best Novel".

Surtac, et al, was Peter Watts there to accept his Hugo in person?

Not cross-posted: a photo of this year's base. I LOVE it -- and read the explanation!

Cheryl Morgan's blog. Poke around a bit -- she has some great pics.

Sk8er, yes Peter was here. He clearly did not expect to win either.

Very pleased with the overall results just quietly.

And Moon got up - that was well-deserved!

'Tac-ji, I totally missed your voodoo message. So very sorry we didn't meet up. I did go to the Chicago bid table after you, so I knew you were around. Did you get to the panel on "First Contact"? I loitered outside that room's door scanning badges surreptitiously. I just couldn't find you. :( The con was a lot of fun though. It was very well organized and I thought had the best (and most coherent and consistently entertaining) panels of any WorldCon I've been too. Good job, AussieCon!

Hi Triscuit. Yes it was a pity we weren't able to meet, but I did catch up with avt and Marah (and I have photographic evidence which will go up soon). I didn't get to the First Contact panel (I plead too many choices in each timeslot) - not sure why, but I tended to follow/stalk my favourites of the authors present, and other luminaries such as John Clute. There were also times when I spent the whole session in the signing queues (KSR, China Mieville, Shaun Tan and so on).

I enjoyed the con, and have come home with some good memories. I'm sure it won't be my last Worldcon either. Reno next year is probably not doable if we do the San Diego meet-up (which we are planning at this stage), but I'm thinking Chicago in 2012 as a definite possibility. We'll see.

The next major challenge for us is a family holiday to China and Hong Kong in a few weeks time, in the next school holidays. This is essentially a test run for San Diego next year.
