As you may have noticed, I changed the info images on the forum status (new posts, no new posts). I hope you like them. If you have any difficulty with them, please inform me. atevi.gif

I can't remember what they were before (if there were any...), but I like the new ones! They look like full and new moons. flower.gif <|8)

I intend to, but not any time soon. My current idea is to turn them into message cylinders or scrolls.

Next step of replacing the icons, this time: topic icons.

It's not up to me to choose so I don't. But I'll point at tools like Colorfilter, just to highlight some issues.

(I actually don't understand the "hot topic (no unread messages)" symbol. What is it supposed to symbolise?
Mind you, I'm an UX professional, so I'm biased - I never ask myself "do I like this". Instead I ask "will this work for the majority of the target group". What I think is not important. Humans are flexible, we can learn to walk one-legged if we have to ateviwink.gif "Like" is such a subjective word, has no automatic correlation to "usefulness" and "ease of use")

Disclaimer - the link above goes to an ugly ugly place; I'm not of the Nielsen Faction, I think Experience is more important than technical do's and don't's. And experiences should be pleasures, not visual assaults.

The red of the messenger cylinders is a bit too subdued. Brighten it up a bit, please?

I agree that there's no need to annotate whether or not a topic is "hot", one can see that from the number or replies. I had to figure out their definitions by right-clicking "view picture" and seeing what the picture files themselves were named.

(Just noticed definition key at bottom of page... duh.gif )

Thanks for your comments and the link, Busifer. Currently looking around with it.

That icon's supposed to be a bunch of closed scroll cases.

Xheralt, could you explain the annotation thing? It's not writing them out, is it? They are supposed to come up as tool tips or placeholders when the pictures aren't available.

whether a topic is "Hot" or not, is a function of the makers of invisionfree. We had an icon before that indicated this very thing; it's not something that Sabina came up with. She just made it more "foreigner-like."

Yeah, I know and I'm not criticising. I just didn't understand that those flat bands were message cylinders.

By "annotate", I more properly mean "classify", which like Spence says is something invision does, bases on the number of replies a topic gets. This is by sheer quantity, a hot topic stays hot forever once it reaches that threshold. I would personally regard a topic as "hot" only where it gets replies in a short period of time...

I guess what I'm saying is, you could use the same graphic for "hot" and "not-hot" threads, readership levels and interest isn't likely to change. We follow threads based on their subject lines, or knowing where the conversation's drifted, not by how many other people have jumped on the bandwagon.

That explanation was for Xheralt.

I was already brightening the icons up, exporting took some time. They appeared fine on testing, but I would consider them too dark, too. And that color isn't used anywhere else on the forum, while the current one has been used extensively.

k, gotcha, Xheralt.
